Abstract

Despite the fact that ulcer disease encompasses a variety of heterogeneous disorders, medical therapy is basically similar for all subsets: treatment of mucosal acidosis, enhanced by use of H2 blockers. Cytoprotective agents and other therapeutic approaches in use or still under investigation offer hope of specific treatments tailored to the different types of ulcer disease.
