Abstract
The roundoff noise performance of a δ-operator formulated 2-D state space digital filter is investigated. Synthesis procedures are developed and it is shown that unlike in the q-operator case, the optimum realizations are different for single-length accumulator and double-length accumulator based filters. A method is presented to find the sampling times so that the probability of overflow of the state derivatives is less than that of the state variables. A numerical example is presented to compare different schemes.
