The levels of tumor necrosis factor in the gastric juice of patients undergoing esophagogastroduodenoscopy were examined. TNF levels were assayed utilizing a new ELISA developed by one of the authors. TNF levels were elevated in patients long status-post partial gastrectomy but were not elevated in patients with Helicobacter pylori infections.
