Abstract

Topics examined include designing for an automated environment, adopting a real-time system, employing a data base management system (DBMS), developing extended applications software that is DBMS-based, obtaining an operating system that is hardware-independent, configuring a distributed network, and considering a dedicated system. Additionally, the authors suggest that current data systems should be upgraded to become information systems and, in time, to become knowledge systems.
