Abstract

The evolving fields of pharmacogenomics and pharmacodiagnostics have lead to a paradigm shift in the treatment of human cancer. Pathology laboratories are now in the logical position to take the opportunity and become proactive in the overall management of patients with cancer. In this educational exercise, we briefly review the role of the laboratory in the era of personalized medicine in general and targeted cancer therapy in particular.
