Theoretical analysis of ametropia correction and accommodation amplitude by varying refractive index in phaco-ersatz

Abstract

The feasibility of simultaneous ametropia correction within phaco-ersatz by modeling the amount of ametropia correctable and the resultant amplitude of accommodation. The two model eyes used were the Gullstrand no. 1 Schematic eye and the Navarro aspheric eye. Both refractive and axial ametropia were modeled. Results show that while the approach might be feasible for correcting hyperopia, only a limited range of myopia could be corrected without significant loss of accommodation.
