The structure of chick lens water insoluble material

Abstract

The structure of chick lens water insoluble material was analyzed by electron microscopy before and after treatment with 8 M urea. It was concluded that the water insoluble material consists of cell membranes and a matrix of morphologically distinct chains and filaments. Treatment with 8 M urea solubilized the matrix (albuminoid) which contained α, β and δ crystallins.
