Abstract

This paper addresses the role of the gap in single pole heads in perpendicular recording. Three distinct types of single pole heads are identified with respect to the gap thickness. The advantages of the different types of single pole heads with respect to skew angle sensitivity and stray field sensitivity are discussed.
