Abstract

The tripeptide pyro-Glu-His-Gly-OH is a new anorexigenic substance, isolated from the urine of patients with anorexia nervosa. In this study the effects on sleep of this anorexigenic peptide were evaluated. Sleep was polygraphically recorded in four healthy volunteers on three consecutive nights. Amphetamine-like effects on sleep were noted in three subjects after infusion of pyro-Glu-His-Gly-OH on the third night with total wake time showing an increase and REM percent a decrease.
