The Effect of Listeria monocytogenes on Resistance to Pneumococcal Infection

Abstract

Listeria infection has been shown to increase resistance of mice to pneumococcal challenge. This protection does not appear to be related to presence of circulating antibody. Enhancement of macrophage function is proposed as an explanation for the observed phenomenon.
