Abstract

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the clinical value of liquid perfluorocarbon (LPFC) application in ophthalmology. METHODS: From June to December in 1994, six cases of retinal detachment with giant retinal tear larger than 270 degrees were treated, and LPFC was used in all the cases. The physicochemical properties of LPFC, the surgical method, surgical indication and complications were discussed. RESULTS: The retina in all cases was reattached and their vision improved. CONCLUSION: LPFC is valuable in treatment of retinal detachment.
