Abstract

This chapter is divided into three main sections: pulmonary embolism (PE), prosthetic valve thrombosis (PVT), and left-ventricular assist device (LVAD) thrombosis. Each section will focus on the development, diagnosis, and management of these cardiovascular entities. The basic treatment of PE and PVT, with emphasis on the role of surgical intervention, will be explained. To provide the most current description, diagnosis, and management of PE and PVT, we analyze the outcomes of the largest studies. An approach to LVAD thrombosis is presented.
