Suicidal hanging. An association with the adult respiratory distress syndrome

Abstract

Study of two victims of suicidal hanging describes a previously unknown association between near-fatal hanging and the adult respiratory distress syndrome. The pathophysiologic results of this pulmonary complication are described, and the implications of this finding regarding the treatment of these are discussed.
