Abstract

A model based on simple quark counting is presented, which describes the inclusive production of charged hadron pairs at large transverse momenta. Predictions are given for the ratios of cross sections for p+Be9→h1+h2+X, where h1 and h2 are any of p, p̄, π+, π-, K+, and K-. The essential feature of the model is that the valence quarks of the initial particles must be included in the counting.
