Shallow water waves: a spectral approach.

Abstract

Studies the TMA wave spectrum (whose deep water limit is the JONSWAP spectrum) and examines evaluation of spectral parameter alpha. Plots a relationship between alpha and the steepness parameter using field data and studies energy levels in the surf zone. Estimation of alpha (maximum) in the surf zone is outlined. Presents a simple model for surf zone wave heights. Discusses shallow water wave growth relationships, and explains how the apparent depth limited wave period, combined with the spectral shape parameters, provides results similar to those of Bretschneider.
