Abstract

Permanent pervenous pacing is now feasible with fixed rate and blocking or QRS synchronous demand pacers. Pervenous synchronous pacers still present problems that prevent their widespread use. Several considerations have led us to prefer QRS synchronous demand pacers to other varieties of permanent pervenous pacers at this time. The QRS synchronous demand pacer (the Ektocor) is readily available at this hospital and soon will be generally available commercially. Several electrocardiographic patterns associated with the use of demand pacers are illustrated.
