A paper by M.D. Thouless, J.L. Adams, M.S. Kafkalidis, S.M. Ward, R.A. Dickie and G.L. Westerbeek reported an analysis and experimental results for the wedge-peel test. The analysis permits an estimate of the joint toughness to be calculated from a measurement of the curvature radii of the plastic deformation. A.J. Kinloch and J.G. Williams argued that a correction should be made to this approach. According to Q.D. Yang and M.D. Thouless, the proposed correction is incorrect and contains inherent logical flaws. Their reply to Kinloch's and Williams' comments on the analysis are presented.
