N2 - The kidney may be affected by a multitude of inflammatory processes that may be acute or chronic and of infectious or autoimmune cause. Infectious agents producing renal disease include viral, bacterial, and fungal diseases. This article reviews the multimodality imaging manifestations of inflammation of the kidneys, specifically addressing such areas as AIDS nephropathy, acute and chronic pyelonephritis, renal and perinephric abscess, emphysematous pyelonephritis, emphysematous pyelitis, malacoplakia, diffuse and focal xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis, fungal infections, tuberculosis, and replacement lipomatosis.
