Abstract

The densities of mixtures of the six possible combinations of the salts KCI, NaCI, K2SO4, and Na2SO4have been determined at constant ionic strength (I = 1.5 m) and 25 °C. The results have been used to determine the volume of mixing (AVm) for these salts. The values of AVm have been fit to equations of the form AVm = + y2y312[v0 - 2y3)] where y{ is the Ionic strength fraction of salt l, and v0and v1are parameters related to the interaction of like charged ions. The cross-square rule was found to hold within the experimental error of the measurements.
