Abstract

Valvular heart disease is a growing interest within cardiovascular disease and advancements in the transcatheter therapies have significantly revolutionized the treatment of valvular disease, leading to a growing concern for prosthetic heart valve thrombosis. Prosthetic heart valve thrombosis may lead to significant heart failure and thromboembolic symptoms and could potentially affect the outcomes in patients with both mechanical and bioprosthetic heart valves. In this chapter we provide an overview of the prevalence, clinical presentation, mechanisms, diagnosis, and management of prosthetic heart valve thrombosis.
