N2 - Bound in the same cover as colume 106/109, ODP Leg 111 continued a multi-leg effort at Site 504, following the work of DSDP Legs 68, 69, 70, 83 and 92. A principle objective was to extend Hole 504B, located 200 km S of the Costa Rica Rift. Drilling by Leg 111 added 212.3m to the depth of the hole leaving it 1562 mbsf, over twice as deep into oceanic basement as any other hole and providing the most complete reference section of oceanic crust sampled and logged in situ. Holes were drilled at 2 further sites to study sedimentary sections. -from Authors
