Abstract

Although further study is required to address all aspects of VAP reduction, certain interventions are based on strong empirical support and should be instituted for mechanically ventilated patients (Table 1). VAP is a significant clinical problem and only consistent review and critique of the research base and use of evidence-based care for the mechanically ventilated patient will help to improve outcomes in this population.
