Physics of perpendicular recording: Effects of magnetic charge distribution

Abstract

A detailed analysis of the stray and demagnetization fields for perpendicular recording layer (RL) was presented as a functions of the areal bit density, the bit-aspect-ratio (BAR), linear and track densities. It was found that, as the areal density increased, the magnitude of the stray field becomes independent of the recording layer thickness. The results showed that higher track densities promoted higher stray field amplitude at lower linear densities.
