Abstract

Conformal mapping was applied to derive the concept of the playback waveform equivalency between a shielded read head and a dual pole head utilized for reading from longitudinal and perpendicular media, respectively. The equivalency relationships between the respective head dimensions were defined. To support the concept in 3D, 3D-boundary element calculations were performed to calculate the sensitivity fields corresponding to both the head types.
