Parallel between playback in perpendicular and longitudinal recording

Abstract

A theory, which defined the guidelines on how to design an optimal perpendicular reader (PR), was developed using conformal mapping technique. Schwartz-Christoffel transformation was used to find the requirements put on of the optimal PR designs for providing the playback waveforms. Three dimensional boundary element modeling was developed to calculate the sensitivity field profiles for the yoke type PR and conventional longitudnal reader. Results indicated that the playback signal was a convolution between the sensitivity field and magnetization, in a recording medium.
