Abstract
A generalized substructural decomposition technique was used to efficiently design controllers and observers for large flexible structures using the linear quadratic Gaussian (LQG) method. The structure is decomposed into substructures and the equations of motion are written for all of the substructures. The accuracy and efficiency of the substructural technique as compared to the full structural model were numerically illustrated on a large flexible structure.
