New approach for the quantitative analysis of visualized three dimensional flows

An approach has been proposed and developed to quantitatively analyze steady three dimensional flows using digital image velocimetry and image processing techniques. One of the fundamental laws of fluid flows, namely conservation of mass has been used to simplify the extraction of the velocity field. The accuracy of the results has been improved by calibrating the cameras. The velocity field in a flow past a half-body is obtained using this method. The experimental results obtained using this method compare favorably with theoretical results.
