Abstract

A model for ELF/VLF noise is proposed, and some of its properties are described. The model consists of a linear combination of a low-density shot noise process and a white Gaussian noise (WGN). A procedure is described for adjusting the model parameters to provide a close statistical match to measured ELF/VLF noise data. Particular attention is given to the performance evaluation of various modulation/demodulation strategies operating in ELF/VLF noise environments as described by this model.
