Micromagnetics of a soft underlayer

Abstract

Micromagnetic simulations and experimental studies were made to account for the physics of a soft underlayer. The existence of a reduced permeability region was observed. Results of the study suggest a set of criteria for a proper choice of the materials parameters, such as anisotropy, exchange length, and saturation magnetization to minimize the effect.
