Abstract
Because more than one third of patients with early breast cancer die of metastatic disease after primary local-regional treatment, systemic adjuvant therapy is often needed. Adjuvant combination chemotherapy is now standard in premenopausal women with positive axillary nodes. For postmenopausal women with positive nodes and steroid hormone receptors, endocrine therapy may be effective.
