Magnetic force microscopy study of the thermal stability of perpendicular magnetic recording media

Abstract

The magnetic force microscopy study of the thermal stability of perpendicular magnetic recording media was presented. The thermal stability of the media with and without a soft underlayer was compared. The results showed that at the same linear densities, a medium with a soft underlayer was more thermally stable than the medium without a soft underlayer.
