Abstract
An ion-selective electrode was prepared by using a polymer membrane on which an lonophore had been covalently attached. Specifically, benzo-15-crown-5 was modified chemically to yield 4α-aminobenzo-15-crown-5, which was then attached covalently to carboxylated poly(vinyl chloride). The prepared electrode responded selectively to potassium with a Nernstian slope. This polymer-bound ionophore had an increased lifetime when compared to the one obtained by using a poly (vinyl chloride )-based matrix impregnated with benzo-15-crown-5.
