The multiple actions of somatostatin (SS) have prompted great interest in producing synthetic analogues aimed at producing highly selective activity. Most interest has centered on the insulin-, growth hormone-, and glucagon-inhibiting actions of these analogues. We report here on the gastric-acid-inhibiting action of a group of stereoisomers of somatostatin and relate that action to their other properties.
