Abstract
1 × 10-7M growth hormone-release inhibiting hormone (GH-RIH or somatostatin) leads to a 50% inhibition of adenosine 3′,5′-monophosphate (cyclic AMP) accumulation in anterior pituitary tissue during the first 2 min of incubation. This lowering of cyclic AMP levels is accompanied by inhibition of the release of immunoreactive growth hormone and thyrotropin. GH-RIH has also a marked inhibitory effect on the theophyline- and prostaglandin E2-induced accumulation of adenohypophyseal cyclic AMP.
