Inflammation after axial flow and pulsatile LVAD implantation

Abstract

A comparative study of the changes in the inflammatory response after implantation of a pulsatile Novacor LVAD and the axial flow MicroMed DeBakey LVAD was conducted. There were no significant differences in the clinical course of the two groups. This observation suggest that the implantation of the axial flow MicroMed DeBakey LVAD is associated with an increased level of IL1 and C5a.
