Abstract

Infection is a frequent cause of morbidity and mortality in patients receiving hemodialysis therapy. The importance of evaluating serious infections in these patients is to define underlying factors and predisposing conditions that may influence the morbidity and mortality related to these complications. For this purpose we have analyzed the infections in 445 patients undergoing chronic hemodialysis during a 42 mth period. This analysis of a single cohort of patients treated by a similar medical regimen enables us to more precisely define the factors that may contribute to these infectious complications.
