To the Editor: Several peptide hormones have been described in the cerebrospinal fluid.1 In a case of glucagonoma, immunoreactive cerebrospinal fluid glucagon levels have been reported.2 Surprisingly, however, normal reference values for cerebrospinal fluid glucagon levels have never been published. We obtained morning serum and cerebrospinal fluid samples from 19 men who had fasted overnight (age range, 24 to 70 years; mean, 54) in whom lumbar puncture was performed before scheduled myelography; indications for myelography were not a selection factor. Thirteen of the 19 patients studied underwent myelography for sciatica, 2 for arm paresthesias, and 1 each for cervical-spine fracture,.
