Gaseous and particulate sulfur in Belgrade troposphere

Abstract

In this paper we present the results of simultaneous measurements of total particulate sulfur and gaseous tropospheric SO2 in Belgrade troposphere during October 1999. Using the ESEM/SEM/EDX techniques we identified main particulate sulfur carriers in Belgrade troposphere. We found direct correlation between gaseous SO2 and particulate sulfur concentrations, which is explained by a synergy of anthropogenic activities and meteorological inversion effects during the days with heavy weather.
