Abstract

Wave data collected during the joint ARSLOE experiment, at the Coastal Engineering Center, N.C., U.S.A. at distances 3, 6, 12, and 34 km offshore are used to examine the growth of wind generated waves with fetch. Outlines procedures to select fetch limited cases scale by friction velocity of air and to eliminate swell components. Non dimensional energy and peak frequency are calculated and related to non dimensional fetch for a variety of wind speed and atmospheric stability cases. Relations between the three parameters are compared to other published relationships shows that the energy/fetch relationship fell within a JONSWAP envelope. (C.J.U.)
