Abstract
The factors controlling elastic properties in carbonate sediments and rocks are discussed. It is found that the grain size and shape, sorting and the ratio between grain and matrix influence acoustic velocity in unconsolidated carbonate sediment. The analysis showed that in the older carbonate rocks the sonic velocity is a function of total porosity and pore type.
