Abstract
A simple nonvariational approach for calculating exciton binding energies in superlattices is developed. The approach is sufficiently versatile that it applies in the limits of strongly coupled and isolated quantum wells, and in the presence of external fields. Excellent agreement is obtained with experimental binding energies in GaAs/GaAlAs using only bulk k.p parameters as input.
