ESR of Eu2+: LaAl2 single crystals: Crystal fields and the effective exchange interaction

Abstract

Reported are 35 GHz EPR measurements on single crystals of EuxLa1-xAl2. Exhibited is a large, b4 = + 112 G, b6 = - 8 G, crystal field. Resolved fine structure and a bottleneck are observed. Analysis using the Barnes-Plefka theory shows excellent agreement between theory and experiment.
