Abstract
An automotive, carburetted, spark ignition engine was operated at constant engine speed, manifold vacuum, and MBT spark advance over a range of fuel-air equivalence ratios with Indolene (gasoline) fuel to determine baseline performance and exhaust emissions characteristics. To determine the effect of methanol addition to gasoline per se on the engine's performance and emissions characteristics, it was operated at the same engine speed and manifold vacuum with MBT spark advance over the same range of fuel-air equivalence ratios with 20 and 30 volume percent methanol-Indolene blends. The results are plotted in numerous diagrams.
