Abstract

This report compares drug usage amongst 445 Appalachian youths and 981 non-Appalachian youths all living in one of four U.S. cities. The patterns of drug use are related to cultural and educational differences in these urban Appalachians who are reported to suffer many difficulties and conflicts. Usage of a number of drugs is reported for each group of youths and recent usage data also presented. A comparison is made with other youth studies on drug abuse.
