Direct observation of chlorophyll a dimer

Abstract

We have investigated oligomeric nature of chlorophyll a in Langmuir-Blodgett films using scanning tunneling microscope. Our observations revealed that chlorophyll a is a dimer and suggest that a similar dimeric condition of chlorophyll a may exist in the reaction centers of photosystem II.
