Direct measurement of the L/K ratio in 7Be electron capture

Abstract

The L/K capture ratio in decay of 7Be was measured using a cryogenic microcalorimeter. The time scale for the slowing down of the recoil 7Li in the HgTe medium was found to have a lower limit of about 210 fs. Experimental value for the L/K ratio was a factor of about 2 lower than the average existing theoretical predictions for free beryllium.
