Abstract

This chapter summarizes the evidence relating diabetes mellitus (DM) to cognitive impairment. A Medline search was conducted relating the term ‘diabetes’ to ‘cognition’, ‘cognitive impairment’, and ‘dementia’ from which most of the articles cited in this chapter were chosen. In addition, pertinent articles related to cognitive impairment were chosen by the authors. Longitudinal studies and clinical trials were favored over other types of studies when available.
