Abstract

Four years ago, the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy issued the first set of guidelines on wireless capsule endoscopy (WCE) and major absolute and relative contraindications were defined. Over the last 3 years, however, several studies have challenged the idea that there is any true contraindication to WCE. This article reviews the available data supporting the use of WCE in most patient populations previously considered to have a contraindication to the examination.
