A new two-dimensional random field, called the random grain model, is described. This random field is generated by the output of a suitably defined spatial filter excited by a two-dimensional marked Poisson process at its input. Parameters of this model can be assigned to provide specific statistical properties for the resulting output random field. Explicit evaluation of the resulting second-order properties of this random field are provided under specific parameter choices.
