Abstract
Extracts of hypothalamus of dogs sacrificed in the laboratory with Nembutal were chromatographed on carboxy- methylcellulose. The following substances were tentatively identified in the effluents based on elution volumes and biological activities: oxytocin, β- and α-MSH, arginine vasopressin, CRF, an α-MSH-like or ACTH- like peptide and ACTH. In the canine hypothalamus, β-MSH and α-MSH are present in much the same ratio in contrast to the porcine tissue.
